Welcome to Västernorrland Museum and Murberget Open Air Museum. You will find us at Murbergsvägen 31 in Härnösand.

Here you can explore life in Västernorrland over 9,000 years with exhibitions, experiences, a café and museum shop, an open-air museum and activities for children.

Opening hours

Regular opening hours of the museum building:  Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–16:00, closed Mondays. 

Extra open on certain Thursdays until 8:00 PM: February 6, March 6, April 3, May 8, June 12, September 4, October 2, November 6 and December 4. 

During the summer season, June 16–August 17, the museum building is open every day of the week. 

Café Murberget has the same opening hours as the museum. 

Opening hours Murberget open-air museum: You are welcome to Murberget open-air museum throughout the year. Many of the buildings are open for visits during the period 16 June–17 August 2025.

Find us by car

To reach Västernorrland Museum by car from the E4, take the exit towards Härnösand and follow the signs marked Länsmuseum. The museum is located at Murbergsvägen 31, just outside the city center of Härnösand

Parking

There are plenty of parking spaces adjacent to both the museum building and the open-air museum . There are two charging stations for electric vehicles at the museum building. 

Disabled parking is available at the entrance to the museum building and at Trampmangeln at the open-air museum. 

If you are coming with a larger vehicle that needs more space, there is bus parking adjacent to Åvike Manor . It is possible to drive all the way to the museum building and turn around if necessary.

Get here by local transport

The nearest bus stop is Murbergsskolan/Länsmuseet, which is located about 350 meters from the museum on Theodor Hellmans väg. It is served by line 501. You can find timetables at https://www.dintur.se/

In the museum building

Free wifi 
The museum offers free wifi for all visitors. The network is called VNMuseum Free WIFI. No password is needed. 

Cloakroom 
You can hang up your outerwear in the cloakroom directly to the left on the entrance floor. There are some lockable storage lockers for those who do not want to carry things during your visit. 

Toilets 
Toilets can be found next to the cloakroom. There is a disabled toilet on the entrance floor.  

Strollers and changing rooms 
You can bring your stroller into the museum. Changing rooms are located in the disabled toilet on the entrance floor. 

Pets and guide dogs 
Guide and assistance dogs are welcome in the museum building. Pets are welcome to accompany you on a leash at the open-air museum. 

Accessibility in the museum building

For children and families 
Elevator: In the entrance hall there is an elevator to all floors of the museum. 

Children's food: The reception and Café Murberget will be happy to help you heat up your children's food. 

Changing table: Available in the disabled toilet in the entrance hall. 

Disabled 
parking: There are two spaces at the entrance. The surface is gravel. 

Entrance door: The door opens automatically. 

Wheelchair: The building is wheelchair accessible, except for the entrance to the Auditorium where there is a wheelchair ramp to borrow. Contact reception if necessary. If you temporarily need an assistive device, you can borrow a wheelchair or a walker that is available in the cloakroom. 

Disabled toilet: Available in the entrance hall. 

Elevator: There is an elevator in the entrance hall to all floors. Width: 1.08 meters, depth: 1.45 meters. Door opening: 2 meters high, 90 cm wide.

Hearing impaired 
Hearing loop: Available in the Auditorium. 

Visually impaired 
guide and assistance dogs: May be brought into the museum. 

Audiovisual interpretation 
Please contact the museum two weeks in advance if you require audiovisual interpretation. Audiovisual interpretation cannot be guaranteed. See each individual event for specific information about audiovisual interpretation. 

Sign interpretation 
You can order sign interpretation yourself via the Interpretation Centre.
